Loie Brasserie

Long avoided by me as a bar welcoming those who think getting trashed in a french named bar is still sophisticated, because they end their night vomiting up proscuitto instead of cheese fries, i finally went there for dinner at 7ish on a weeknight and was very pleasantly surprised. the chef there is pretty clever, and food was well put together. i had one damn good meatloaf, a special of the night, which was served in a really dark smokey sauce with tasty mushrooms and the very occasional sliver of bacon. it was served on really creamy mash potatoes with grilled asparagi. really good wintery food. R got this:

FOREST MUSHROOM ORICHETTA $15

seasonal mushrooms, English peas, portabella truffle sauce, shaved Pecorino

it was also really tasty. i would avoid this place thursday to sunday but any other time it is quiet and pleasant, and the food is very good. takes CC, at sansom and 19.
